Thailand Tourism Authority Cheers Bangkok’s Spot in Best of the World 2025

Saturday, October 26, 2024

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is thrilled to reveal that Bangkok has earned a spot in National Geographic’s prestigious Best of the World 2025 list. This recognition celebrates Bangkok’s vibrant culture, iconic attractions, and innovative developments that continue to draw travelers from around the globe. National Geographic’s list, known for spotlighting extraordinary destinations, highlights Bangkok as a must-visit city, known for its rich heritage, bustling markets, world-class dining, and dynamic arts scene. The TAT looks forward to welcoming even more visitors eager to experience Bangkok’s unique blend of tradition and modernity.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said “We are honoured that Bangkok has been included in National Geographic’s much-anticipated annual list of awe-inspiring destinations. Bangkok’s inclusion reflects its vibrant atmosphere, world-renowned street food, majestic temples, and bustling markets – all elements that make it a unique city for visitors seeking both adventure and relaxation.”

In its official announcement at NatGeo.com/BestOfTheWorld, titled “The 25 Best Places in the World to Travel to in 2025,” which went public on 22 October 2024, National Geographic highlighted Bangkok as a must-visit destination to “Explore a temple reborn.”

National Geographic praised Bangkok as “an enchanting mix of old and new,” where sleek skyscrapers blend effortlessly with luxury destinations like Siam Center and refined hotels such as Innside by Meliá Sukhumvit. The city is also gaining acclaim as a rising center for art and design, with notable cultural events like the Bangkok Art Biennale and the Bangkok International Film Festival, especially vibrant in the emerging Bang Rak neighborhood.

The feature further highlighted Bangkok’s role as a gateway to Thailand’s cultural treasures, spotlighting Wat Chaiwatthanaram, a 17th-century Buddhist temple located just outside the city in Ayutthaya. Recognized as one of Thailand’s most significant monuments, this temple has been undergoing extensive restoration efforts following damage from the 2011 floods. Recent preservation projects, including 3D laser scanning and a protective flood wall, aim to safeguard the temple’s legacy and create an educational site dedicated to Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.
